Round Three Report:

A new super star has emerged in Australian Senior Amateur golf. In winning the 2012 National Senior Masters, NSW and Twin Creeks GC member Graham Blizard took his record to three titles from four starts (and he was one stroke from the winners in the NSW Seniors). Blizard played with great control and confidence on all three of the testing National courses and his scores of 72-78-72=222 gave him a five stroke victory.

Runner up was fellow Twin Creeks Golf Club member Greg Corben (79-71-77=227). Corben started the fina lround very well and established an early lead but Blizard's golf was high class with his power and touch best demonstrated on the final hole where his drive-9 iron to the 400 metre hole amazed the crowd of seniors golfers. He was a deserved winner of the much coveted Masters green jacket.

Third place went to the regular top performer, West Australian Ian McPherson (73-81-76=230) with fourth place belonging to South Australia's top senior John Beaumont (73-79-78=231). NSW senior Roy Vandersluis (77-74-81=232) had yet another top five finish while popular Victorian Alan Buckley showed a glimpse of his previous top class form with an easy win in the 54 hole net championship.

Round Two Report:

It looks like an exciting finish in the 2012 National Senior Masters. After a great round of one under par 71, Twin Creeks and NSW golfer Greg Corben (79-71) shares the lead with another Twin Creeks member Graham Blizard (72-78).

It was another pleasant day with even stronger wind to test the field on the Moonah course. Corben's 71 included three birdies and two bogies. Fellow NSW golfer Roy Vandersluis (77-74) is just one stroke away with the final group member John Beaumont (73-79) also close enough to easily claim the title.

The tournament concludes tomorrow with the final round on the Ocean course - believed by many to be the hardest of the three courses.

In interesting news a guest speaker has been arranged for the dinner on Wednesday evening - the guest is Doctor Mark Rogers.

Dr. Rogers approach begins by taking pictures of a patient with a thermo-imaging camera, much like the hot-spot technology used in cricket to show whether the ball has made contact with the bat. "We can actually visualise the pain, show them where their pain is and then find the injury and actually be precise about where they've hurt themselves" he explained.
"That's where the cold lasers come in, targetting the soft tissue deep in the problem areas and stimulating the production of collagen cells which assist the healing process. "

Sounds like a very interesting night.

LATE IMPORTANT NEWS:

Dear Participant

Thank you for your entry into the 2012 National Senior Masters. Due to unprecedented demand for this year’s event, a change to the format has been required. It is our objective to accommodate all the players and for that reason changes to the regular format had to be made.

The format for the event is as follows:

Round One – Tuesday 17th of April

Full field will be split into two shotgun starts on the OLD Course. The Am Field are starting at 7:30 and the PM Field are starting at 12:30.

Round Two – Wednesday 18th of April

As above with the fields switched on the MOONAH course. For example, the AM Field from Round 1 will play in the PM and vice versa, shotgun starts at the same times.

Round Three – Thursday 19th of April

The Final round will be seeded for the top 100 scratch scores (including those in running for nett prizes). This Field of top 100 will play on the OCEAN Course, with a two tee start from 7:00 am.

The remaining players will be playing in a consolation event on the Old course. A shot gun start format will commence at 8:00 am.

This will result in the event concluding mid-afternoon on the final day allowing all participants to keep their post event travel arrangements. We thank you for your participation in this event and look forward to seeing you at The National in April.”

Golf Victoria would also like to thank all participants for their understanding in changing the format as it avoids having to conduct a ballot.

Following the immediate success of the first two events the organising committee of this year's The National Masters have spent time and effort in making sure that this year will be even beter.

If you have not been to this event then you should definitely consider it for 2012. Played over 54 holes on three of the countries top courses it is a golfer's dream.

To assist with travel plans the organisers have advised that the final day will be a mid morning tee off with all play and lunch/presentations completed by 4:00 -4:30 p.m. This will allow interstate travellers the 90 minutes needed to travel to the Melbourne Airport for an evening flight.

Latest Information after a discussion with the Tournament Organiser:

Rounds 1 and 2 will be played on The Old and The Moonah courses with tee times starting at 8:00 a.m. A golf cart is included for all players in Round 1. All players will start at the first tee.

Round 3 will be played on The Ocean course using a two tee start beginning at 8:00 a.m. This will be a seeded draw.

The presentation pack for all players will include a club golf cap and pitch repairer - especially prepared for the event and will be embroidered or engraved with the year (a great memento.) The pack will also include a course guide.

Daily lunch packs will be provided each day - no cost to players.

This year a Ladies Competition will be held over 36 holes - Tuesday and Thursday, with individual 18 hole prizes also awarded. The event is open to all women aged 45 years and older.

All players can have a practice round on Sunday and Monday. The cost will be $50 per player with carts at members rates of $18 per player. The club has recently added a new fleet of carts.

During the tournament free range balls are available all day - the practice balls will be new.

Clubs can be stored at the clubhouse. Pull buggies are available if needed and are free.

The course superintendent has prepared a world match play course and two Australian open courses. The ground guys get very excited when it comes to showcasing their work - look for patterned fairway mowing, defined fairways and the usual perfect greens.

Each course will be groomed each morning and all ground staff, about thirty, will mow and lightly roll greens, groom every bunker and generally make the daily course as close to professional tournament quality as possible.

The chef has assured the organisers that the main dinner on the Wednesday night will be memorable. The club proudly boasts that they have never ever run out of anything, especially oysters.

It is believed that the weather has also been taken care of!
