Golf NSW Report:
History repeated itself today with Peter King (Windaroo Lakes, QLD) defeating "a Dale" in a Play Off to win the 2012 NSW Senior Championship. Last year King defeated Denis Dale to win the 2011 event at Bermagui with an eagle 3 on the second play-off hole. This year it was Denis' brother Rodney from Collangatta Tweed Heads Golf Club who was defeated in the Play Off, after finishing level on 7 over par for the three rounds.
AUSOOM Report:
The 2012 NSW Senior Amateur Championship was won in an exciting playoff by the defending champion. Peter King from Queensland. Played today at the Lynwood Golf Club King had finished in a tie with Coolangtta Tweed golfer Rod Dale on a 54 hole total of 223 (seven over par). Both drove well on the first playoff hole but when Dale's second missed the green and found a very difficult lie King's par was enough to claim successive titles.
As well as taking home the runner up prize Rod Dale was the winner of the 2012 NSW Senior Country Championship.
King had defeated Rod Dale's brother Denis in a playoff for the 2011 NSW Senior Championship at Bermagui. In November of 2011 King defeated Roy Vandersluis in a play off for the Asia-Pacific Senior Amateur Championship title. At present it certainly seems that Peter is the "Playoff King".
Finishing just one stroke out of the playoff were NSW seniors Stefan Albinski and Graham Blizard. For Albinski it was a surprising final round of 80 and a missed short putt on 18 that cost him the chance to win the only senior state title that has escaped him in a fantastic senior career. Graham Blizard was playing in his first NSW Senior Championship and his final rounf 72 was almost good enough to claim a come from behind victory. It does look like a good senior career ahead for Blizard.
The 54 hole handicap competiton was won by Kooindah Waters golfer Robert Steele. Playing off a handicap of 8 Steele had opened the tournament with a net 63 after a sensational round of one under par 71. Yass golfer Paul Matthews was second five strokes away and a stroke ahead of Stefan Albinski and Graham Blizard.
The Lynwood course was in great condition and although the heavy rain threatened throughout the tournament it did not really have an impact on the course or the result. Next year the NSW Senior Championship will be played at Howlong Golf Club.

Golf NSW Report:
Defending Champion Peter King (Windaroo Lakes, QLD) stormed into contention late on day 2, ripping through the front nine in four under par before being slowed by the afternoon’s heavy rains on the back nine. His second round of 72 places him two strokes behind the leader and in second position.
It also sets up a show down between he and the current Australian Senior Amateur Champion, Stefan Albinski (Mona Vale) who sits on 144 after rounds of 71 and 73. Rounding out the top four are Queenslander Rodney Dale (73-74=147) and NSW senior Richard Greville (74-75=149)
.
The afternoon’s round was significantly affected by the heavy rains which somehow stayed away from the morning field. The course at Lynwood is handling the conditions well, with Warrangamba Dam breaking its banks being the only real threat to play tomorrow

Round One Report:
Golf NSW Report:
There is a mixture of old and new faces at the top of the leaderboard in the NSW Senior Championship after round 1. Kooindah Waters’ 8 marker Robert Steele has had the round of his life to shoot 71 in hot and humid conditions at Pitt Town’s Lynwood Golf and Country Club.
He joins Australian Senior Amateur Champion Stefan Albinski (Mona Vale) and Bill Banks (Royal Canberra) on this mark. Pennant Hills’ Scott Richardson and Cabramatta’s Jim Malkus shot even par rounds of 72.
Carnarvon’s Michael Lee is one shot adrift, along with Queenslander Trevor Box (Windaroo Lakes), Martin Turner (Queanbeyan) and Rodney Dale (Coolangatta Tweed Heads). Defending Champion Peter King (Windaroo Lakes) shot 74 today to remain in striking distance.
AUSOOM Report:
It was a very hot day and so was the scoring in the first round of the 2012 NSW Senior Amateur Championship played at the Lynwood Golf Club starting Tuesday February 28.
Tied for the lead after opening rounds of one under par are two of the better known Australian senior golfers, Stefan Albinski (NSW) and Bill Banks (ACT). Joining them is a newcomer from the Kooindah Waters club, Robert Steele.
A single stroke behind is the amazing veteran from Cabramatta, Jim Malkus (a two time winner of this event) and Scott Richardson from the Pennant Hills club. They lead a group of four grouped on a score of one over par 73 - Rod Dale and Trevor Box from Queensland and Michael Lee and Martin Turner from NSW.
The Lynwood course was turned out in perfect conditions and with very smooth and nice paced greens there could be no complaint from the field of almost 200 senior golfers. The tournament continues tomorrow and with a forecast of heavy rain at times it should make scoring quite interesting!
