The 2012 NSW secondary event was again held at two of Australia's iconic golf courses - The Lakes and The Australian. Both courses have been the venue for recent Australian Opens.
Round Two - The Australian GC - Report:
Teeing off in second place after a fine round of 78 at The Lakes, New South Wales Golf Club member Graham Blizard (78-75) played well again for a solid score of 75 at The Australian and a well earned 3 stroke victory in the 2012 NSW Senior Classic. This was the first national event for Blizard and he has the rare distinction of claiming a title in his first start. More winds are certainly in store for this talented senior.
Greg Stanford (82-74)had the equal best round of the day at The Australian with a two over par 74. This gave hime second place in the 36 hole event and his best finish in a national event. Third place went to Wyong senior Norm Hollis (79-78) and a deserved result for one of only two players who broke 80 in each round - well done Norm!
Round one leader and the defending champion, Steve Gibson (76-82), faltered at The Aussie and his round of 82 saw hime drop back to equal fourth place. Sharing fourth was Concord senior Paul Maslen (81-77) and this result sees Maslen climb into the top twenty rankings.
The important handicap competition was won by Windsor golfer Stephen Hall with net rounds of 76-71 =147. He finished four shots clear of Graham Blizard and five clear of Greg Stanford. Hall earns 130 points for his handicap win and he will now climb right up the rankings table for the year long handicap competition.

Round One - The Lakes GC - Report:
In a wild and windy day at The Lakes Golf Club scores soared with the weather. Leading the day after a very impressive 76 was the defending champion Steve Gibson (St Michael's). His round of 76 was a highlight and he was one of only five players who finished under 80 on this testing course in demanding conditions.
Second place with rounds of 78 is shared by Terry Small (Kogarah) and Graham Blizard (NSWGC) with one more stroke to local member Bart Doff (The Lakes) and Wyong's Norm Hollis. All five senior golfers who broke 80 come from seaside or naturally windy courses where experience with these conditions can be a real advantage.
All players will be hoping for better conditions when the tournament concludes at The Australian Golf Club tomorrow.
