Australian Team B member Peter King (82-79-71) closed with a tournament best one under par 71. This saw him make up a 10 shot deficit in the individual event and force a tie with Australia A member Roy Vandersluis (78-77-77). In the play off it was Peter King who took the title with a rock solid par on the first play off hole.

Team B also took the team trophy from Australia A when Paul Maslen improved with another very good round of 74. Earlier, Chris Coats' opening rounds of 76 and 79 had kept them in the race and at the end every team member had contributed two scores out of their three rounds. Team B were a very happy team as they passed Team A for a memorable win. New Zealand finished in third place.

The New Zealand scores were as follows: Murray Martin 75-76-83, Phil Mosley 78-80-78 and Arthur Parkin 79-79-84.

Apart from the great final rounds from Peter King and Paul Maslen it was a day highlighted by "spectacular" scores. Chris Coats opened with a triple bogey 7, then Murray Martin had a quadruple 8 on the fifth only to be beaten by Denis Dale's 9 on the same hole. Later Martin, when leading the individual title, added a double and triple bogey on holes 16 and 17.

Royal Perth was setup for a real championship and only the very best players scored well.

ROUND TWO REPORT:

The Australian A team has joined New Zeland in the lead after the second round of the 2011 Asia-Pacific Senior Amateur Championship being played at Royal Perth Golf Club.

Team A:

Stefan Albinski
79-77
Denis Dale
76-79
Roy Vandersluis
78-77
Team B:

Chris Coats
76-79
Peter King
82-79
Paul Maslen
80-86

With the best two scores to count Australia A and New Zealand are tied on 308. Australia B is in third place on a 36 hole total of 314. The New Zealand scores are as follows: Murray Martin 75-76, Phil Mosley 78-80 and Arthur Parkin 79-79.

The individual lead belongs to Kiwi Murray Martin after consistent rounds of 75 and 76 on this testing course. Round one leader Ian McPherson slipped with a second round of 82 but he share second place with a large group of chasers all grouped on 155.

Again the scores scores were genrally very high and all players appear to be struggling with the narrow fairways and fast greens. The Royal Perth course and especially the greens are in perfect condition and all players are looking forward to a final battle tomorrow

ROUND ONE REPORT:

Australia's two teams have done well in the opening round of the 2011 Asia-Pacific Senior Amateur Championship being played at Royal Perth Golf Club from Wednesday November 30 to Friday December 2.

Team A:

Stefan Albinski - 79
Denis Dale - 76
Roy Vandersluis -78

Team B:

Chris Coats - 76
Peter King - 82
Paul Maslen -80

With the best two scores to count Australia A trails the leading New Zealand team by a single stroke. The Kiwi trio returned scores of 75 (Murray Martin), 78 (Phil Mosley) and 79 (Arthur Parkin). The Australia B team is in third place two shots behind the Australia A team.

The individual lead belongs to West Australian Ian McPherson who made light work of the strong winds and very fast greens to shoot five birdies in his first nine holes. He eventually signed for a one over par 73 and leads by 2.

Overall the scores were very high and the Royal Perth course certainly won the honours on the opening day. Round 2 continues tomorrow with teams from all countries hoping to improve on their opening day performance - Australia, Pakistan, India, New Zealand, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Vietnam, The Philippines and Singapore.

Over 65 players from over eight countries in the Asia-Pacific region will contest the 2011 Asia-Pacific Senior Amateur Championship at Royal Perth Golf Club from 29 November - 2 December.

Australia’s number one ranked senior golfer, Stefan Albinski will head the Australian contingent, while last year’s winner, Taimur Amin from Pakistan will visit Perth to defend his title. New Zealand is represented by three strong players, while 17 locals from Perth will be hoping to keep the trophy in WA.

Players contest 54-holes stroke play for the primary event, whilst teams of three players also represent their country for the honour of winning the team event.
