Round Two Report:
Bill Banks, the most prolific winner in the history of Australian Senior Golf, has done it again with a two shot win in the 2010 36 hole NSW Secondary event played at the NSW and The Australian Golf Clubs.

After an opening round of 74 at the NSW Golf Club that gave him a share of the overnight lead with Richard Greville, Banks returned a 75 at The Australian Golf Club to hold off a great second round of one under par 71 by NSW player Vince Clark (80-71). Greville's second round 79 gave him a tie for third place with Nick Dunn (77-76). Points from this event have moved Greville into 13th place on the Australian Senior Rankng table. Banks and Greville were drawn together in the final round and shared in a most unusual feat when both holed their second shots on par 4s - Banks on the 3rd and Greville on the 16th.

NSW player Roy Vandersluis was fifth after rounds of 76-78. This continued his recent good form having tied for second place in the 2009 ACT Senior Championship.

The next five places were taken by non metropolitan NSW golfers, highighting the strength in NSW country golf. Sixth place was shared by Dennis Allen (77- 78 Port Kembla) and Russell Rogers (81-74 Tura Beach). Eighth place was shared by Brian Sams (83-73 Port Macquarie) and Rick Oliver (81-75 Young). Alone in tenth place was Charlestown senior Greg Kent with rounds of 82-75.

The defending champion Stefan Albinski (NSW) shared 11th place after rounds of 82 and 76.

This was the first time the NSW secondary had been played at these two great courses and the championship was definitely a success and looks certain to be on again in 2011.

Round One Report:
NSW senior Richard Greville and ACT senior "legend" Bill Banks are the round one leaders in the 36 hole NSW Secondary event now underway at two of Australia's best courses - NSW and The Australian Golf Clubs.

Both players returned strong rounds of two over par 74s on the NSW GC course - venue of the 2009 Australian Open. The best score of the day actually belonged to NSW player Les Oliver (73) but he is not playing in the second round at The Australian and is therefore not part of the Australian Senior Ranking event.

On a challenging day on this demanding course the next best rounds were Nick Dunn, Geoff Lumsden and Dennis Allen, all from NSW and all returning 5 over par rounds of 77. The early showers presented some problems but as the day continued the conditions improved and for the second half of the dau were close to ideal.

Defending champion for this event, Stefan Albinski (NSW), slipped with a round of 82 but is expected to bounce back at "The Aussie".

The NSW Secondary event for the Australian Senior Ranking competition has moved from Northern Sydney to inner Sydney.

The new venue for the championship will be the New South Wales Golf Club and The Australian Golf Club - 18 holes played at each of these great golf courses.

The defending champion for the NSW Secondary event is Stefan Albinksi.

The Australian Golf Club Seniors Medal and New South Wales Golf Club Seniors Medal will be played on 8 & 9 February 2010. These events will be part of the Golf Australia Senior Ranking System and also the NSWGA Senior Order of Merit competition.

The 36 hole result will constitute the Golf Australia Senior Ranking event while each 18 hole event will constitute a round for the NSW Senior Order Of Merit. The handicap limit is set at 8.4. You will need to enter each of the events separately.

The field for this event will be restricted. In the event of excess entries higher handicap players may be balloted out, except for the following who will be exempt:

  • Top 50 in the Golf Australia ranking as at 1 December 2009.
  • Top 30 in the 2009 NSW SOOM.
  • There will be a limited number of Special invitees.
