Round Two Report:

In a difficult day that produced high scores nothing much has changed on the leader board. Alex Cleave returned a 77 after his opening 74 and on a total of 151 he still maintains his lead although he has to share it with the defending champion Brian Sams who returned a 76 after a round one 75.

The third member of the BIG 3, Stefan Albinksi, has carded 75-77 and he sits one shot behind the leading pair. With this group playing together in the last round it should be a very memorable day of high quality golf.

Other players with a chance of upsetting the top three are Chris Carey (76-77=153) and newcomer Alan Bullas (79-76=155). Previous WA champion Ian Read (78-79=157) will need something special to catch the leaders.

West Australian Graham Bowen slipped slightly with an 81 while Queenslander Norm Way improved with a 78. These two share seventh place on 158.

Making up the top ten are four regulars on the senior circuit. WA player Nigel Goodall showed his true form with a 75 after a disappointing opening round of 84. John Beaumont managed a 79 after an opening 80, Tony Kennings improved from 81 with a 78 and Grahame MacDonald couldn't find winning form with an 82 to follow his first round 77.

Round One Report:

With just one round of the 2009 WA Senior Championship it looks like the three early favourites will be fighting out the finish of yet another major event.

Local WA champion senior Alex Cleave leads on 74. He has a one stroke lead from the current Australian Senior Amateur champion Stefan Albinski and the current top ranked senior golfer in Australia Brian Sams (and the defending champion in the WA Seniors). Both players returned 75s.
